Authentic Valle D’Itria (Ceglie Messapica & Cisternino)

DESCRIPTION

Ceglie is a “Messapian” town, characterized by lands full of trulli, dry-stone walls and the suggestive Castello Ducale with its Norman tower raising on the hill. Visit to the historic center, full of architecture and 18th century palaces, such as Palazzo Allegretti, Palazzo Epifani, Palazzo Vitale and Castello Ducale. In this city of art and gastronomy, you will taste the famous “cegliese biscuit”, a little toasted almond pastry, shaped like an irregular cube, stuffed with cherry or grape jam and flavored with light citrus fragrances.

Cisternino, overlooking the Valle d’Itria, is part of “the most beautiful italian villages”. Visit to the extraordinary ancient town where it is possible to admire some historic buildings, such as Palazzo del Governatore, Palazzo Amati and the Convento dei monaci Cappuccini. You also have to visit Sant’Antonio and the Matrice Church, dedicated to San Nicola from Patara, built in the XIV century on a paleochristian church.

At the end of the tour, you will have a typical dinner in a “Braceria” (steakhouse), a characteristic restaurant near the butcher shop, which offers typical and traditional cuisine, entirely made with local products. The restaurant, in its very traditional style, offers local meat from the Valle D’Itria, cooked on hot coals, including the “bombette”, “gnumeredd”,”braciole al sugo”, all accompanied by a series of typical starters, such as Capocollo di Martina Franca , salami and local hams, cheese (Ricotta, Mozzarella, and aged ones like Caciocavallo) all served with a good bottle of Primitivo wine.
