Caves and Sea Tour (Grotte di Castellana & Polignano a Mare)

DESCRIPTION

Visit to the Castellana Caves, a journey to the center of the earth among multi-colored stone embroideries, deep in magnificent caves. The White Cave, unique in the world, awaits the visitor at the end of the walk.
The Castellana Caves are a complex of underground cavities of karst origin, among the most beautiful in Italy.
They are about 3300 meters long and reach a maximum depth of 122 meters, with a constant temperature throughout the year of about 16°. The route is three kilometers long; an unmissable guided excursion in an incredible scenery, where underground canyons, caverns with fantastic names, fossils, stalactites and stalagmites stimulate the imagination of young and old visitors.

Then, visit to Polignano a Mare, birthplace of Domenico Modugno, surrounded by the “blu dipinto di blu”; the crystalline sea and the carved rock are the hallmarks of this wonderful city, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic“. Visit to the old town, full of Arab, Byzantine, Spanish and Norman traces, like the remains of the four defensive towers that surrounded the ancient part of the village. From the “Arco della Porta”, formerly the only access to the village, we enter the enchanting town, enriched by the thirteenth-century Matrice Church dedicated to the “Assunta” virgin Mary, and by the balconies overlooking the sea.
The jagged coastline gives rise to the Marine Caves including the well-known Grotta Palazzese and the high cliff of Lama Monachile. At the end of the walk, a moment of pleasure awaits us: enjoy an exceptional homemade ice cream or try the popular “Caffè Speciale”, an excellent coffee created in Polignano.

*The appetizer is optional. Finding yourself on a terrace overlooking the sea, on ancient mills carved into the rock to enjoy unique and distinctive products, is an exclusive experience to have. You will taste freshly prepared delicacies, made with quality food such as raw fish, tartare, “bruschetta” (crispy bread) seasoned with extra virgin olive oil in various ways, served with a glass of intense Apulina wine characterised.
