Tour among the ancient roman streets (Monopoli & Egnazia)

DESCRIPTION

Monopoli, overlooking the sea and surrounded by high walls, will amaze you with its 99 streets that intersect in an endless maze. You will breath in its history and traditions dating back to the 5th century. You will see the large fortified gate, englobed in the Castle, and some tombs in the hypogeum area of the Cathedral which are from Roman times. Along Via dei Mulini, inside the Bastion of Santa Maria, near the Episcopal Palace, important traces of the past fortifications are still preserved.
Along the Apulian Adriatic line, between Monopoli and Savelletri, the archaeological park of Egnazia is one of the most interesting sites of the region, with evidence and findings that range from the Bronze to the middle Ages. You will see the Roman houses and monuments, as well as the huge defensive wall (the north wall being 7 meters high).

Walking around the ancient city of Gnathia, you will feel like reliving the past. Cart ruts are still visible on the ground along the Via Traiana which crosses it. That was an important trading way . The Acropolis dominates the city from a hill that overlooks the sea, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view.
At the end of the visit, there will be an aperitif by the sea, along the ancient walls of Monopoli, with a tasting of 4 fine wines from historic Apulian cellars. A sommelier will be offering us an accurate sensorial analysis for each of them, combining the perfect wine with every Apulian specialty.
